Description:
Tinned sheet iron clockwork locomotive with wooden smokestack, cast iron wheels, and bell on top; with embossed floral decoration on body and painted details on cab; clockwork mechanism can be seen through open cab, connected to spools at sides.
Gallery Label:
While this toy resembles toy locomotives made by George W. Brown of Forestville, CT, the embossed decoration, in particular, suggests that it was made by another, possibly related company. A number of tin manufacturers operated within two counties - Hartford and Middlesex - and many designs were common to several toy companies (See Publications).
