Gilt copper struck medal with obverse showing clothed bust of Lincoln facing right with legend: "FOR A FURTHER UNIFICATION OF THE PEOPLE." Reverse depicts tunnel portals on the New Jersey side with a view of Manhattan in the distance; inscription in exergue: "LINCOLN TUNNEL/DEDICATED 1937/BUILT AND OWNED BY/THE PORT OF NEW YORK AUTHORITY."

This medal commemorates the completion of the central tube of the Lincoln Tunnel in 1937, which was built and maintained by the Port of New York authority. Over the next twenty years two more tubes were added, connecting West 39th street in Manhattan with Weehawken, New Jersey. With the traffic of over 40 million vehicles per year, the Lincoln Tunnel is the busiest tunnel in the world.
