This ribbon commemorates the launching of the fifth Battleship Florida (BB-30) on May 12, 1910 by the New York Navy Yard, sponsored by Miss E. D. Fleming, daughter of a former Florida governor. Captain H. S. Knapp was put in command. After extensive training in the Caribbean and Maine coastal waters, the Florida arrived in Hampton Roads, VA on March 29, 1912 to join the Atlantic Fleet as the flagship of Division 1.
