Description:
Black (now faded) silk knee breeches with horizontal flap across the front which buttons closed, 4 buttons at each knee, 4 suspender buttons, lined with white linen.

According to the accession record, these knee breeches were worn by Stephen Keyes Stanton (1826-1914), Secretary of U.S. Legation in Paris under Richard Rush from 1847-1849.
