Bronze struck medal with obverse showing accolated busts of King Albert and Queen Elizabeth facing left; scroll enclosing seal of the American Numismatic Society beneath is inscribed: "FORTISSIMI.SUNT.BELGAE"; legend around border: "KING ALBERT AND QUEEN ELIZABETH OF THE BELGIANS." Reverse depicts plane flying above water, surrounded by legend: "COMMEMORATING.THEIR.AERIAL.CROSSING.OF.THE.ENGLISH. CHANNEL/JVLY.MDCCCCXVIII." Medal is inset into square cream-colored cardboard fitted case with cream silk satin and silk velvet interior.
This medal was issued by the American Numismatic Society to commemorate the flight of the king and queen from Belgium to England to attend the silver anniversary of King George and Queen Mary.
