Gallery Label: 
John Watts, the son of John (1715-89) and Ann (De Lancey) Watts, was born in New York. He was the first president of New York City Hospital (1770-84), three times speaker of the New York Assembly, and a member of the U.S. Congress (1793-96). This portrait was copied from either the oil painting by Henry Inman or John W. Bolles's copy of that portrait. The latter is in the collection of The New-York Historical Society.
