A native of Jamestown, R.I., Watson started his career in banking with the Industrial Trust Company in Providence. In 1901 he moved to New York where he became treasurer of United States Rubber; within a few years he was president of General Rubber Company; he was president of Lee Rubber and Tire Corporation by 1917.
