Henry Remsen (1762-1843)

Remsen was born in New York, the son of Henry (or Hendrick) Remsen and Cornelia (Dickenson) Remsen. He was secretary to John Jay when the latter was secretary of foreign affairs, and to Thomas Jefferson when he was president. This miniature portrait of him was a gift to the Society from his great-great-grandson.
