Henri de Gallon, the son of Luke Henri and Louisa (Bardollet) de Gallon, owned a great deal of real estate in Louisville, Kentucky. His portrait, which was purchased by the donor from a descendant of the subject, was drawn in Louisville, then on the very fringe of civilization where artists were rarities (see Audubon, "Audubon and His Journals," I, 1897, 47-48).
