Linen hand towel with cross-stitched roosters, weathervanes, geometric designs and floral designs in pink and blue on natural ground; inscribed at top, "1843/ Maryan Fols;" fringe at both ends; crochet work sewn to base with geometric patterns and two women; lattice and ball fringe.

Hand towels were worked by adolescent girls of Pennsylvania German families and hung on the door between the kitchen and the sitting room of the home. The peak of hand towel production was between 1820 and 1850.
