This is an electrotype of one of the "Comitia Americana" medals awarded by Congress to heroes of the Revolutionary War between 1776 and 1781. General Anthony Wayne was awarded the honor in 1779 but the medal was not struck until late 1789 or early 1790. Charles Willson Peale had electrotypes made from the original gold medal in Philadelphia in 1842 and sold them to collectors.
