Description:
Amphora-shaped porcelain trophy vase with square base; vase covered in gilding with bat-printed portrait of William Bainbridge in circular frame; handles represent winged victory.
Gallery Label:
The portrait was engraved by David Edwin for the Analectic Magazine after the painting by Gilbert Stuart. Bainbridge was a hero of the War of 1812. This vase is similar to plate 1952.137
