Description:
Small, trapezoidal leather purse with slightly curved strip of iron secured with metal band at base and piece of flint inside; purse with applied metal ornament in the form of a bird or a bat with outstretched wings on flap and metal wire handle on top.

According to the accession records, this flint kit belonged to Major General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804), great-great-grandfather of the donor.
