Description: 
Two red wool fragments bound at edge in white wool, each in envelope with similar descriptive note: "Piece of U.S. Flag that/ waved over Ft. Sumter during/ the bombardment & was taken/ away by Gen. Anderson who cut this/ off on board the Baltic to give/ Gus for Wood Lowery."
Gallery Label: 
The "Gus" referred to on the envelope is probably Gustavus Vasa Fox, and the envelope was probably inscribed by his wife, Virginia Woodbury Fox.
