Cotton, linen, jute rope
Overall: 77 x 136 in. ( 195.6 x 345.4 cm )
Cotton U.S. flag with forty white cotton stars on the blue canton (some loss to the canton); thirteen red and white stripes; jute rope hand sewn along the length of the linen hoist.
The donor of this flag believed it was made between 1860 and 1865, but based on its 40 stars, it had to have been made after 1889, when South Dakota became the 40th state.
