Pale aquamarine, slightly opaque non-lead glass figured flask blown in a two-part mold (McKearin GI-42) with rounded string rim, oval body with bust of George Washington and inscription "THE FATHER OF HIS COUNTRY" on obverse, bust of Zachary Taylor and inscription "A LITTLE MORE GRAPE CAPTAIN BRAGG" on reverse, and pontil mark on base.
Gallery Label:
McKearin and Wilson identify the bust on the reverse of this flask as that of Taylor (see "American Bottles & Flasks and Their Ancestry," p. 534). It is possible, however, that the bust was meant to represent Braxton Bragg (1817-1876), another hero of the Mexican War who was later a general in the Confederate Army.
