Bronze struck medal with obverse depicting nude male bust facing left with legend around line border: "FELIX MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY/Geb.d.3.Feb.1809.Gest.d.4.Nov.1847." Reverse bears ornate vignette at center, consisting of lyre emerging from a cloud and decorated with laurel branches; sun emitting rays of light above, two shields below; legend around line border: "ZUM 40 JAHR. JUBILAEUM D.KCL. CONSERVATORIUMS DER MUSIK Z.LEIPZIG D.2.APRIL 1883."
