Description:
Oval mourning embroidery with various colors of silk floss on vertical rectangular silk ground; memorial urn on pedestal in center with robed figure standing at right, willow tree at left, sky, figure's head and designs on memorial are painted; stitches include satin, knots, straight and backstitch. Inscribed in embroidery: "IN MEMORY OF / Mr SIMON HASTINGS / BORN MARCH 1st 1735. / DIED AUGUST 15 1785. / Mrs SARAH HAST- / INGS BORN APRIL / 11 1738. DIED / DECEMBER 22 / 1798."
