This Elks Club badge, from the early 1970s, belonged to a Harlem entrepreneur, Roosevelt Zanders, who owned a fleet of limousines and became known as a "driver to the stars." By night, Zanders was President of an Elks Club chapter for blacks. The designation "W" after "I.B.P.O.E." (Improved Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks) stands for "of the World," signifying that this club was distinct from the exclusive white Elks Clubs.
