The subject was the daughter of Danford Henry Knowlton, a businessman and stockbroker of New York. Her mother was Mary B. (Johnes) Knowlton. She married Allan Appleton Robbins on June 6, 1901. Her husband was a prominent engineer who participated in the construction of the New York subway system.
