Lady doll with papier-mâché shoulder head, molded black hair, and molded and painted facial features; stuffed kid body with divided arm composed of stuffed kid upper arm and painted wood lower arm and divided leg composed of stuffed kid upper leg and painted wood lower leg (blue paper bands conceal joints); pink and beige off-the-shoulder mid-calf length dress with elbow-length sleeves, low waist, and wide ruffle, muslin petticoat, lace-trimmed knickers, and red painted slippers.
Christie's appraiser Olivia Bristol estimates that the doll itself dates from ca. 1830 and the dress from ca. 1850 (Christie's Appraisals, Inc., Auction Estimates, January 7, 1998).
