This dirt was collected from the pitcher's mound at Yankee Stadium after the deciding game on October 17, 2000 that sent the Yankees to the World Series (known as the "Subway Series" because it pitted two New York teams against one another). It was given to the donor, a seven-year-old Yankee fan, by a friend who attended the game and convinced a groundskeeper to let him take a scoop of dirt from the mound. The Yankees defeated the Mets 4-1 in the series.
