Bronze struck medal with obverse showing right-facing high relief bust-length portrait of Dewey in uniform; legend: "THE GIFT/ OF / THE/ PEOPLE / OF THE /UNITED / STATES / TO THE / OFFICERS/ AND MEN / OF THE/ ASIATIC / SQUADRON/ UNDER THE/ COMMAND/ OF / COM/ MODORE/ GEORGE/ DEWEY". Reverse shows bare-footed and bare-chested sailor seated on cannon over cartouche inscribed "U.S.S. Baltimore"; legend: "IN MEMORY OF THE VICTORY OF MANILA BAY/ MAY 17, 1898". Loop affixed to top; ring joins to loop on pinback with eagle between branch and anchor; blue and yellow vertical striped grosgrain ribbon.
