1904 First New York City subway, IRT.
After Lou Grumet acquired a number of antique canes depicting iconic New York places and people, he commissioned Vancouver yacht maker and cane carver Ivan Wilson to create a cane commemorating the first New York City subway car put into service by the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) Company in 1904. The IRT was founded by August Belmont. The carved handle of the wooden cane depicts the subway car.
Gift of Lou and Barbara Grumet
