A devoted follower of Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Craddock carved a series of canes devoted to Jefferson's achievements. The carvings highlighted the particular achievements that are listed on his gravestone at Monticello, including author of the Declaration of Independence and of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and the founder of the University of Virginia. Interestingly, the presidency is not listed on this folk art cane.
