Fan-shaped tortoise shell hair comb (broken) with six teeth extant, extremely deep and wide top with elaborate openwork design which includes rosette at the center, and overall floral and leaf, areas of imbrication and geometric patterns.

This is an exagerated version of the large combs popular in the last part of the eighteenth century, when hair fashion emphasized great height, when the pompadour style was in vogue.
