Khaki-colored linen single-breasted ensign's coat; double collar and shallow lapels; black wool shoulder boards with one gilt stripe approx. 5/8" wide, 5-pointed gold star at the center, button at collar end; 3 buttons down the front, 4 pockets on the front with flaps which button closed; all buttons cast with an eagle clutching an arrow above 3 cannon balls, surrounded by stars; closed sleeves (no cuffs); back in 2 panels with waistband between bodice and split skirt; inside unlined, right breast pocket in facing.
This ensign's coat was worn by Abel I. Smith, when he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
