Bronze medal commemorating the tercentenary of New York; obverse with seated female personification of New York holding a skyscraper and a torch, inscribed "TERCENTENARY / NEW YORK / 1914"; reverse with a Dutch man and a Native American flanking a ship with beaver below, inscribed "NEW NETHERLAND / FOUNDED 1614". Medal inset into book-style clothbound presentation case of the Circle of Friends of the Medallion containing historical background, with gold embossed logo with portrait of Pisanello at upper right corner of cover and number "11" on upper section of spine; engraved bookplate with initials "JMA" applied to inside of front cover.
This medal was the eleventh issued by the Circle of Friends of the Medallion for its members. The organization, headquartered at the National Arts Club at Gramercy Park, was formed to encourage interest in small sculptures and bas-relief.
