Description:
Chippendale cherry chest of drawers; slightly projecting top molded on the front and sides; case has four graduated, lipped drawers; brass escutcheons with bail handles (not original) and escutcheons over keyholes; applied base molding on the front and sides; ogee bracket feet.
Gallery Label:
This chest of drawers was owned in the Hawley family of Fairfield County, Connecticut. Charles Hawley (1792-1866) was Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1838 to 1842. The cabinetmaker, George Whitfield Peck of Greenwich, signed his name on the back of the lowest drawer.
