Flat-folding black beaver (textile) chapeau bras with all edges bound with black cloth tape; large loop of braided gold(?) cord secured by button.

According to the accession records, this chapeau was worn by Philip Schuyler (1788-1865) while serving as Consul to Liverpool under President Martin Van Buren.
