Description:
Mahogany cellarette with tapering oval-cylindrical body and hinged lid; barrel construction with three brass bands; brass hinges and lock; lead lining with eight compartments around central compartment; four square, outswept legs.
Gallery Label:
Cellarettes were portable wine coolers with lead-lined interior compartments. They could be stored beneath the sideboard and rolled out for use at meal time. This example was used in the Verplanck mansion at 3 Wall Street.
