stamped: on the underside of the fork handle: "STERLING"
silver carving knife and fork with pointed handles, cast in vertical halves, with chamfered borders, threaded shield reserves on each side, one side engraved, "S" in gothic script, with embossed laurel garlands around each; molded handle sockets fitted with ovoid guards; knife with a flat steel blade, curved on both sides, lower with an edge; fork with two long, curved, steel tine tines with a baluster stem and a handle a projection on which to rest one's forefinger and thumb; maker's mark stamped on the underside of the fork handle.
This silver service was presented to William Sulzer (1863-1941), the former governor of New York State, by his Congressional District on his 50th birthday in 1913.
