Leather, wood, brass, and skin cartridge box; curved, rectangular black leather box with two vertical loops for shoulder belt riveted to rear, and flap with sheepskin padding on interior and a circular brass clasp that fastens to a hooked brass stud at front of box; box contains wooden block with nineteen bored cartridge holes.

This cartridge box is probably the experimental model that was manufactured for use with the Model 1866 U.S. Breech-Loading Rifle. It was formerly part of the Francis Bannerman collection.
