Leather, tin, and brass cartridge box; rectangular black leather box with one horizontal and two vertical loops for shoulder belt riveted and sewn to rear, two iron buckles at bottom, and double flaps with strap on outer flap that fastens to brass stud at bottom of box; box contains hinged tin insert with five cartridge compartments at both ends and leather flap cover.
This cartridge box model was patented in 1864 and manufactured by the Rock Island Arsenal. It was formerly part of the Francis Bannerman collection.
