Copper-plated lead electrotype of James Biddle naval medal with obverse showing uniformed bust of Biddle facing right with legend: "THE CONGRESS OF THE U.S. CAPT. JAMES BIDDLE./FOR HIS GALLANTRY GOOD CONDUCT AND SERVICES." Reverse shows two warships engaged in combat with legend: "CAPTURE OF THE BRITISH SHIP PENGUIN/BY THE U.S. SHIP HORNET"; inscription in exergue: "OFF TRISTAN D'ACUNHA/MARCH XXIII/MDCCCXV."
