Description:
Tin, leather, and wood canteen; drum-shaped, circular tin body with cylindrical mouthpiece and cork inside canteen, and black leather strap with iron buckle that runs through tin loops fastened to body and side; engraved marks on back.
Gallery Label:
This canteen is of the type that were carried by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. The engraved inscription on back of the canteen may have been made by a captain in the 7th Virginia Regiment, and may have been captured or found by a member of the New York Caledonian Club who served in the Union Army.
