Small iron cannon on wooden carriage with stencilled inscription.
According to the accession records, this cannon was the property of the 9th Regiment of New York Volunteers (Hawkins' Zouaves). The regiment was raised in New York and served from 1861-1863 fighting at Hatteras Inlet, Roanoke Island, Winton, South Mills, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Suffolk. The donor, Rush Christopher Hawkins, commanded the regiment.
