The knish, a snack-food consisting of a small dough wrapped filling (usually potato, buckwheat or onion) originated in eastern Europe, was brought to the United States by Jewish immigrants around 1900. Knish Nosh is a New York City based chain whose first store opened in Queens, NY in 1952.
