White cardboard (y) box with lid, found with (bb-cc) 2 spread eagle metal embroidered uniform insignia, (aa) one formeé cross pin, (z) one silk ribbon, and (dd-ff) 3 badges with ribbons and insignia.
Gallery Label:
This collection of military insignia and badges were among the objects found in the footlocker of William F. Paine, who served as a Col. as a surveyor in the Army, 1862-1865. Paine was responsible for devising systems and tools to better facilitate the surveyor's tasks, including patenting a coiled steel tape measure.
