Oval brass plate with scale at top; above pelican sitting on nest full of chicks.
This plate was found in the files of the N-YHS Field Exploration Committee. It was probably part of a collection of replicas of 18th and 19th century buttons and military badges owned by William L. Calver, the Committee's chairman. It is of the type worn by some Union state troops during the Civil War.
