Belt clasp

Overall: 3 5/8 x 1 x 1/2 in. ( 9.2 x 2.5 x 1.3 cm )
Vertically oriented narrow yellow metal belt clasp with shell cameo medallion at the center; scroll work at top and bottom of obverse, with scroll shaped side edges, floral garland surrounds cameo depicting a seated robed female figure with cherub; the reverse clasp fastener is hinged at the bottom and clasps at the top, vertical chape and tongue hinged at the center.
Gallery Label: 
This belt buckle was used by Mary Armstrong (Mrs. Fleming James, 1805-1871). She wore it to Martin Van Buren's inaugural ball in 1836.
