Vertical rectangular white linen shopping bag from World War I, white silk crocheted cord drawstring closure with stand-up collar, drawstring with tassels at the ends, embroidery in various colors of silk floss on both sides; the bottom half of one side depicts six uniformed soldiers standing in a row, the figure far left holds a banner representing the French flag, on the far right, five banners are set one on top of the other, representing the allied flags of Italy, France, Germany, England and the United States; the center of the other side shows an abstract representation of an eagle holding a banner in its beak and wing, and olive branches and arrows in its claws, with an American armorial; both sides have green geometric border across the bottom edge, and each vertical side has wite silk crocheted edging applied.
This shopping bag, along with 1935.48a, was given to the donor by French peasant women.
