Description:
Louis XVI style armchair with upholstered back, and seat, and padded arms; rectangular back with molded, carved crest rail ("chapeau de gendarme"); acanthus carving on arm supports; stop-fluted legs.
Gallery Label:
According to accession records, this chair and its mate were owned by New Yorker John Vaché (1762-1833), a French immigrant, and used when he entertained Lafayette in 1824.
