Commemorative gilt bronze struck medal issued for the 200th Anniversary of the White House; obverse with image of White House surrounded by laurel and oak wreath tied with bow at lower center; dates inscribed upon scrolled banner at upper center: "1800 - 2000"; inscribed in ex.: "THE/WHITE/HOUSE". Reverse bears bust-length portraits of John and Abigail Adams within oval medallions decorated with floral swags; inscription above: "FIRST INHABITANTS OF/THE/PRESIDENT'S/HOUSE"; inscribed beneath portaits: "1800/JOHN and ABIGAIL/ADAMS". Inset into rectangular fitted dark blue velvet box with gilt metal seal of the United States applied to lower right corner of box cover; inside cover is lined with white polyester satin with seal of the United States embossed in gold at center.
This commemorative medal was given to New-York Historical Society President Betsy Gotbaum at a dinner celebrating the 200th anniversary of the White House attended by President Clinton and former Presidents Bush, Carter, and Ford.
