White metal struck medal with obverse showing exhibition pavilion buildings with legend above: "CENTENNIAL EXPOSITION"; inscription in exergue: "PHILADELPHIA/1876 [within shield with thirteen stars]." Reverse is inscribed: "1776/ILLUSTRATING/THE GROWTH AND PROSPERITY/OF A FREE PEOPLE/IN A HUNDRED YEARS/1876."
