The subject was the son of Regis Senac (ca. 1838-1908), a native of Bordeaux, France. He was born and educated in New York and followed in his father's footsteps as an expert foilsman and fencing teacher. His pupils included John Barrymore John Drew, and Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. The Society owns a number of his foils and his a collection of photographs and certificates related to his fencing school.

Sackett (1818-41), a merchant of Sackett & Bros. in New York, on February 3, 1840. She married her second husband, William Edgar Stillwell (1807-69) of New York, on October 22, 1843. Mrs. Stillwell died at 60 West 92nd Street in New York. This portrait was a gift to the Society from her husband's nephew.
