Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month at New-York Historical and join us for a deep dive into the insightful and poignant novel Lucky Broken Girl along with author Ruth Behar. A finalist for the 5th annual Children’s History Book Prize, Girl tells the story of an 11-year old Jewish-Cuban immigrant named Ruthie Mizrahi as she adjusts to her new life in New York and a sudden injury that leaves her bedridden. To pass the time, she collects stories about her grandparents, discovering the rich culture that defines her family. Discuss the book with Behar herself, then view related objects and manuscripts to deepen the conversation.
