We've got a delightful guest at New-York Historical: The 1907 Steinway piano that once belonged to Cole Porter. The American songsmith extraordinaire composed many of his classic tunes on these very ivories, including “Anything Goes,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” We're thrilled to be hosting the piano—nicknamed High Society—while its usual home, the legendary Waldorf Astoria New York, undergoes renovations.
Join us to hear the recently restored piano in action as you stroll through our Robert H. and Clarice Smith New York Gallery of American History and listen to live renditions of classic pieces from the Great American Songbook by pianist Simon Mulligan.
Seating in the gallery is limited to 40 guests, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Standing is welcome.
Simon Mulligan is an internationally acclaimed pianist and Steinway Artist. He has performed for many notable figures including President Barack Obama, Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family, and the family of the late Cole Porter. A CD of his Cole Porter recordings is forthcoming under the Steinway label.
Access to the Cole Porter Piano Series is included with Museum Admission during New-York Historical’s Pay-as-you-wish Friday Nights (6–8 pm). No advance reservations.
