Kingwood writing table with satinwood inlay; rectangular top with molded edge and two side panels with elaborate inlay flanking square, leather-lined panel (writing surface) at center that tilts upward on a ratchet support; one front drawer running full width of case with inlaid anthemions and stringing below similarly decorated inset panel, and one side drawer with stringing above similarly decorated inset panel; trestle base with open, curvilinear side supports joined by a medial stretcher near bottom and raised on casters.

According to the donor, this writing desk was owned by Robert Townsend and used in his home located on the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and 18th Street in New York City.
