engraved: center front: "J P R H S" in bright-cut script engraved: on the base: "L S" in script stamped: on base: "I & P T" in a rectangle besides a roman "P" in a rectangle and a leopard's head in a chamfered rectangle
Wrought silver waste bowl; round body with an applied molded rim; seated on a molded circular foot with an applied, reeded footring; a decorative geometric band and a foliate band are engraved below the rim; "J P R H S" engraved in script inside a garland on the center front; "L S" engraved on the base; maker's marks on the base.
Gallery Label: 
Belonged to Rebecca Hodgson Stevens and her husband, whose intials are engraved in the center. It descended in the Schermerhorn family from her sons, George S. and John P. Schermerhorn (1808-1887) to her grandson and his wife Louise Schermerhorn (b. 1849) whose initials are engraved on the base.
